i was taught to get out of the pool and jump up and down while my ear faces the ground. it works like a charm for me, only thing it feels weird when the water comes out, cause first you hear a suction cup type of sound then you feel warm water slowly oozing out your ear canal lol. then you get hungry -n- scarf on sum munchies ^_^ make sure to do both ears

ReplyDeleteSwimmers ear is caused by a microbe feeding on earwax; this is near pure cholesterol and can be prevented by a low fat diet high in fresh fruit and salads. So the second best way to prevent swimmers ear is to clean most earwax from both ears before entering the water. Wearing earplugs or using hydro peroxide solutions is NOT so much prevention as suppressing the symptoms.

ReplyDeleteMr. Toriello does an expert job in teaching the key concepts in swimming. When it comes to "preventing" swimmers ear, Mr. Toriello may consider that paying attention to removing the main "'cause"" of swimmers ear will go a long way in it's prevention. Swimmers ear occurs when conditions are created for a microbe to multiply in the outer ear canal. The only way this can occur is if there is a ""food source"" for the microbe.

ReplyDeleteAfter building up to swimming for 40 minutes non-stop I've had to stop swimming completely. Plugs, both silicone & putty don't seem to help. The earaches are too much so I started using the treadmill for cardio workouts.
ReplyDeletethe problem with ear plugs is that the day you don't have the ear plugs and you go into the water you will get an ear infection... friendly advice from a lifeguard i know. best thing to do is tilt your head to the side and back and eventually the water will come out.
