Swimmer's Ear
Otitis Externa: Inflammation of external auditory canal or auricle. Infectious, allergic, and dermal disease. Up to 10% of men and women develop during lifetime. Acute bacterial external otitis most widespread form seen. Other causes otomycosis, contact dermatitis, necrotizing otitis externa, chronic suppurative otitis media, and external auditory canal carcinoma Lateral (outer) cartilaginous portion approximately two-thirds of canal, and medial (inner) bony portion other 1-third. Outer cartilaginous portion lined by thicker skin with numerous adnexal structures including cerumen glands, sebaceous glands, and hair follicles. Cerumen is formed here: mixture of secretions from cerumen glands, sebaceous glands, and desquamated epithelium. The inner osseous portion contains thin skin with out subcutaneous tissue. The dermis direct contact with the underlying periosteum. Minimal inflammation or instrumentation of the bony canal causes considerable pain. The inferior tympanic recess is a tiny depression in the inferior medial aspect of the ear canal, adjacent to the tympanic membrane. Debris can collect in this region and cause or perpetuate infection. Video Rating: 4 / five
I had swimmer's ear in my left, then my right, then my left, and then both. All within a month. That was a lot of Tylenol, ear drops, and yelling from pain...
I realised someting was wrong when one ear was half-deaf. XP The ear drops tickle. :I I think I might be getting it again... D: And the worst part is I'm on holidays right now. >.<
@Hmsheen10 I have it also I swim a lot, pain and fullness, ouch!!!! Using polysporin eardrops, and I now wear earplugs when going under water. It sucks
That is why if the water doesn't go away on its own in the few hours after I get out of the water, I will put in a few drops of rubbing alcohol to dry it up.
i got it and my mom tried 2 do wat doctors did 2 her when she was little and it hurt cuz she was usin hot water and she was squeezin the thing real hard, and i feel like it made worse, were puttin achohol in it, it burns, dis happened las year, i felt like i was gettin all the water dat went 2 my ear out b4 anythang happened, i guess i didnt and it somethin else i dunno
Yeah, I have had this for about maybe a year now. It may not be the same one, because a few months ago I couldn't hear a thing out of one ear, and then I could hear the next day. But then, the ear pain came back. -_- My mom thinks there is nothing wrong with me and the doctors don't even think anything is wrong with me. Ugh I wish this friggin swimmers ear would go away and never come back.
Yea I have this now and what was originally diagnosed as a inner ear infection a week and a half ago and after going to a ENT specialist told me that it is swimmers ear and it hurts, I wake up screaming sometimes from the pain.
ahh man i have this right now and it KILLS, its hard to sleep b/c it just fkn hurts so bad. ive heard about using vinegar and i guess that puts the PH level where it should be and eases the swelling, my left ear is swollen and i cant hear a damn thing out of it, so is this home remedy valid? i see lots of websites say you should do this but i dont want to make it worse. pls help ive tried flushing ive tried peroxide and nothing has worked.
